Petit Pittacum is a young red wine from the Bierzo Denomination of Origin, created by Bodegas Pittacum. It is made from the indigenous Mencía variety, which in this northwestern region of Spain displays fragrant and fresh characteristics. The wine is designed to highlight its more accessible and fruity side without losing its identity and character. The grapes come from vineyards located on predominantly clay and slate soils, contributing to balanced maturation. The harvest is done manually, and vinification is carried out through moderate macerations and controlled fermentation to preserve aromatic purity. A short aging in French oak adds structure and complexity without overshadowing the fruit. In the glass, Petit Pittacum shows an attractive bright cherry red color with violet hues. Its nose is expressive and elegant, predominantly featuring notes of cherry, raspberry, violets, along with a subtle mineral and spicy background. On the palate, it presents itself as a medium-bodied, juicy, and balanced wine, with soft tannins, good acidity, and a fresh, persistent finish that invites continued enjoyment.
