Fucus is a brown algae rich in mucilages, minerals such as sodium salts, potassium, and magnesium; trace elements, particularly iodine (0.1%), and also cobalt, zinc, nickel, chromium, silicon, etc. Finally, it is a good source of nitrogenous matter and vitamins A, B1, C, and D. It is attributed slimming properties due to its high iodine content, stimulating metabolism through the thyroid; and due to its content of mucilages, which, in contact with the fluids of the stomach and intestine, forms a viscous and very bulky gel that increases the volume of feces, promoting peristalsis, exerting a satiating effect and hindering the absorption of sugars and fats.
