Eggplant is a vegetable that belongs to the same family as tomato, pepper, or potato. It usually has an elongated body, but there are also very thin eggplants. The most commonly marketed ones are purple or striped. Its flesh is white or with a cream tone and with seeds inside. They should never be eaten raw due to a substance they have called solanine. This substance disappears when cooked.
