CM Finca Valmediano 2014 is a single vineyard red wine made by Carlos Moro in the Toro region, one of the most ambitious projects of the Matarromera group outside Ribera del Duero. Coming from Finca Valmediano, a unique vineyard planted around 1930 with old Tinta de Toro vines on their own roots, this wine is characterized by its poor sandy soils that naturally limit grape production, resulting in great fruit concentration. The continental climate of Toro, with hot summers and cold winters, favors complete ripening, producing intense and structured wines. The harvest is done by hand with a rigorous triple selection of grapes; after fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine ages for about 16 months in new French oak barrels. This process gives the wine extraordinary complexity and remarkable elegance. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe black fruits like blackberry and plum are complemented by balsamic notes, spices, cocoa, licorice, and toasty undertones. On the palate, the wine is powerful, deep, and structured, with firm but well-integrated tannins, good acidity, and a long, persistent finish. It is a wine with great aging potential, with its evolving profile evident in the 2014 vintage, and is ideal for pairing with red meats, game, roasts, and aged cheeses.
