CM Finca Valmediano 2014 is a single-vineyard red wine produced by Carlos Moro in the Toro region of Spain. It comes from the Valmediano vineyard , a historic plot planted around 1930 with old bush vines of Tinta de Toro.
The vineyard is planted on poor sandy soils , which naturally limit yields and produce highly concentrated grapes. The continental climate of Toro allows for full ripening, resulting in wines with power and structure.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for around 16 months in new French oak barrels , gaining depth, structure and complexity.
On the nose it shows aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry and plum , along with hints of balsamic notes, spice, cocoa, liquorice and toasted oak. On the palate it is powerful, structured and complex , with firm but integrated tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish.
This wine has excellent ageing potential , and the 2014 vintage is already showing some evolution, making it ideal for pairing with red meats, game, roasts and aged cheeses.
