Terrafondada 2020, created by Aníbal de Otero, is a red wine distinguished by its production from old Mencía vines that grow in the homonymous area. The uniqueness of Terrafondada lies in its aging in emptied oak barrels refilled with manually destemmed grape clusters, resulting in a very limited production of 500 bottles. The vines, over 130 years old, some possibly pre-phylloxeric, confer unique complexity and concentration to the wine. The vineyard is situated in poor sandy and clay soils, enhancing drainage and concentrating flavors. This wine has been aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels, emphasizing its singular character. With an alcohol content of 14% and a total acidity of 5.5 g/l, it is recommended to serve at a temperature between 18º and 20º to pair with stews, fatty fish, red meats, and aged cheeses. Terrafondada guarantees a genuine experience of Mencía from Bierzo and will positively evolve in bottle over the next 10 years if kept in a cool, dark place. It may present natural sediments, a sign of its purity and integrity.
