Rating: If Pétalos is the regional wine that captures the different personalities of Bierzo, Corullón is the wine of the municipality, the wine of the Villa de Corullón. It is a wine marked by the power, intensity of slate soils, and the strength of old vineyards, between 60 and 100 years old, and at the same time, by the elegance of a velvety texture.

Bierzo is a heterogeneous region, with a great diversity of soils, altitudes, and exposures, and Mencía is a capricious variety when it comes to ripening. However, this lack of uniformity has been particularly notable with an unbalanced cycle due to the climatic conditions that persisted until the harvest, offering different ripening rhythms in the same vine.
Winter was mild, with temperatures reaching 25º C in February, and little rainfall: only 578 liters in an area where it usually rains about 800 liters. Due to the mild temperatures, the plants started to sprout early, too soon, and the April frosts and unexpected spring rainfall (over 150 liters) not only caused an unbalanced vegetative development but also a flowering period that lasted a whole month for the same vine. Fortunately, the summer was mild and moderately humid, but this lack of uniformity did not make the decision of the harvest date any easier. Harvest finally began on September 14, later than usual, in the sunniest areas of Corullón, San Martín, and Fontelas, followed by Moncerbal on October 19, Las Lamas on the 20th, and ending with La Faraona, the most mysterious vineyard.
Climate variability is usual, but Bierzo will never cease to surprise us. In the end, the vintage offers wines with great vitality and elegance, wines full of ancient knowledge, in which rigidity and strength are revealed wrapped in aromatic nuances and a delicious flavor.
