Cut basil leaves. Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is a herbaceous plant of the mint family, which can be appreciated by its minty aroma. The fresh leaves are about 5 cm long by 2 cm wide and are deep green on the upper side and grayish green on the underside. It grows mainly in Egypt, the United States and France
