BIRCH (BETULA ALBA L.)
Birch leaves have been used since ancient times for the treatment of rheumatism, gout and urinary tract diseases. Tisanes are prepared by decoction of one or two tablespoons of dried leaves per cup of water, adding a pinch of baking soda. The infusion has an aromatic odor and a bitter taste. They contain saponins, essential oils, tannins and vegetable antiseptics (phytosides).
Birch leaves have recognized diuretic properties, being useful in the treatment of rheumatic conditions and gout (uric acid). It produces a renal elimination that does not irritate the kidneys. (internal use) Treatment of edema of cardiorenal origin. (internal use) Activates the function of the kidneys. (internal use)

The infusion of birch leaves is a potent diuretic capable of dissolving kidney and bladder stones, for which it is recommended to add a pinch of sodium bicarbonate to the infusion.
