The turnip greens are part of the Galician gastronomic culture and are even catalogued with the quality mark IGP, Protected Geographical Indication.

The turnip greens proceed from the turnip (Brassica napus and Brassica rapa), and are the tender stems that appear on the plant just before flowering. They are usually planted in summer, almost always in August to enjoy them throughout the winter, which is when flowering occurs
