The Marqués de Riscal Limousin White Wine from Bodegas Marqués de Riscal presents this white wine from the Rueda Designation of Origin, made from 100% Verdejo grapes.
With beauty, refinement, and typicality, this wine represents the most outstanding qualities of the Verdejo grape, renowned for its fragrance, fresh acidity, and aging potential.
The grapes come from vines over 40 years old, in goblet form, from the highest terraces in the La Seca area and free-standing vines from the Segovia area. 50% of the vines are grown organically. This highly adaptable and acidic grape allows for optimal fermentation and aging on lees in French oak barrels.
Production: Manual harvesting is carried out in 15 kg capacity boxes for the subsequent pressing of the whole, uncrushed grape, after passing through a double selection table for clusters and whole grapes. This way, the oxidation of the must is minimized and all the aromas, color, and freshness of this variety are preserved. After a slight clarification of the must, fermentation takes place in 600-liter French oak barrels, followed by aging on lees for approximately 6 months. Weekly stirring of the lees for the first 3 months and then depending on the evolution of the aging.
Optimal serving temperature: Between 9 and 12ºC.
The history of Bodegas Marqués de Riscal is the story of an innovative, pioneering, and reference company in a continuously transforming wine sector.
The winery was founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga. In 1862, its first wines were bottled, making them the oldest bottled wines in Rioja.
A few years after its foundation, the winery quickly began to win numerous awards, but one of the most important came in 1895 when Marqués de Riscal became the first non-French wine to win the Diploma of Honor at the Bordeaux Exhibition.
In 1972, Marqués de Riscal began the production of the first white wines from Rueda, and in recent years, the winery has dared to incorporate two new designations into the project, VT Castilla y León and D.O. Getariako Txakolina.
For those who want to explore the history of the winery from its founding to the present day with the opportunity to enjoy Marqués de Riscal wines, the Wine City was inaugurated in 2006, which now has a hotel designed by the famous Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry.
