The Alternativa3 fair trade coffee is grown by the cooperative, Central Cooperativa Indígena del Cauca (CENCOIC), an organization of coffee producers founded in 1980. The organization achieved Fair Trade Coffee certification in 1995 and, thanks to this, has been able to defend small coffee-producing families from the abuses of the large, dominant multinational coffee growers.
