The strawberry is a type of large, heart-shaped fruit with a vibrant red color. There are many varieties of strawberries, including:

• Queen of the Valleys: the predominant variety of strawberry in the Spanish market. They are tiny fruits with a whitish-red to bright red color, juicy pulp, and a sweet and aromatic flavor.
• Camarosa: the most cultivated variety of strawberry. It is a large fruit, originally from California, very early ripening, extremely shiny in color, and has a good taste and firmness.
• Tudla: large, aromatic strawberries, elongated, with intense red color both externally and internally.
• Oso Grande: originating from California, with an orange-red color, wedge-shaped, thick caliber, and good taste.
• Cartuno: perfect conical shape, uniform caliber, and bright red color. It has a sugary taste.
• Carisma: a very vigorous variety, adapts to all types of soils and climates. It is a soft red color and large in size.
• Irwing: round-shaped, flattened at the stem, and matte red in color.
• Pájaro: conical shape, firm, with consistent pulp and uniform and bright red color. Considered the variety with the best taste among all those marketed.
• Selva: a summer variety, usually available in the market from mid-July to late September.

The fruits ripen throughout spring and well into summer, from March to July.

They contain few calories, lots of water, carbohydrates, fiber, potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin C, folates, and vitamin E; therefore, they have disinfectant and urine alkalizing properties; they also act as anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant, stabilize blood cells, promote fertility; they are antioxidant, promote the formation of collagen, bones, and teeth, red blood cells; as well as the absorption of iron from food and resistance to infections.

When buying them, it is advisable to choose thick, shiny fruits with a fresh appearance. They should be bought with the stems intact and stored until they have been washed.
