Production and Aging
Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5th Year 2016 is a blend of Tempranillo and Merlot varieties with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Valbuena Tempranillo comes from plots located on concave slopes with a gentle slope that descend from the hills of the plateau. These soils come from material that eroded and accumulated as colluvium on the lower slopes, developing a soil with high expression, with significant evolution resulting in the formation of a calcareous horizon at depth. Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with native yeast. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.
After fermentation, it undergoes aging, between wood and bottle, for 5 years, hence the wine is called Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5th Year. French and American wood, new and used 225l barrels, 20,000l vats, a long and complex process that produces a great wine.
