Producer: Nikka (Japan)
A Japanese whisky between bourbon and scotch made from a majority of corn from the "Coffey" stills. This single grain gives us a glimpse of the grain whiskies that form the base of all Nikka blends, with a particularly smooth and charming style.
To be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, diluted with water, soda, or used as a base for cocktails.
Nose: Fresh and seductive at the same time, it reveals sweet notes of ripe pear, cherry juice, and exotic fruits. Citrus, blood oranges, and lemon, appear to make way for subtle floral notes, apple blossoms, and cherry blossoms. Upon opening, it becomes more indulgent and pastry-like with coconut, bourbon vanilla, and cream-filled chouquettes. Subtle touches of mint and a hint of musk underneath.
Palate: Juicy and delicious, it delivers on the promises of the nose. A medley of ripe fruits accentuated by bold rum (banana) and caramel notes. It becomes more complex with licorice and star anise. The mid-palate becomes more fruity, dominated by pear nectar and quickly transitions to creamier flavors without ever becoming heavy. Freshness is omnipresent.
Finish: Just as indulgent as the palate, it develops on pear and bourbon vanilla before fading away with a very beautiful and light bitterness.
