Algueira Pizarra is a prominent red wine from the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra, 100% Mencía, known for its intense cherry red color and fruity complexity.
Algueira Pizarra 2021 is an exceptional red wine from the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra, made entirely from the Mencía grape variety. This wine is produced at Bodega Algueira, known for its commitment to quality. The grapes used come exclusively from the Carballocobo estate. The production process involves foot treading of whole bunches, followed by cold prefermentation maceration with strict temperature control. After more than 30 days of fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels and foudres for 12 to 18 months. In the glass, Algueira Pizarra displays an intense cherry red color of medium-high depth. Its nose is very intense, highlighting complex red fruit with balsamic notes from the terroir and that characteristic minerality that gives it its name. On the palate, the attack is fresh, with an intense and structured mouthfeel, a crunchy tannin presence, and a warm character. The aftertaste is very lengthy, accompanied by a retronasal reminiscence of the mineral qualities of the plot it comes from, as well as its vinification with stems.
