Monkfish is a demersal white fish with benthic habits, which can be found in coastal areas, but mainly at depths between 100 and 1,000 m. It is very rich in proteins, selenium, phosphorus, vitamin B12, and niacin. We are dealing with a lean white fish, with a very low fat content (0.3 g per 100 g of edible portion), so its caloric value is lower than that of other species. On the other hand, it is a source of B vitamins, specifically B12 and niacin or B3. In terms of minerals, it is a source of selenium and phosphorus. A serving of monkfish covers 110% of the recommended intake of vitamin B12 and 38% of niacin for an adult man who engages in moderate physical activity.
