Barbeito is an essential Madeira winery, founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito with the idea of making great wines and bottling some exceptional batches in very limited quantities. Today, his grandson Ricardo Diogo remains faithful to the founding principles.
His Frasqueira Verdelho 1981 is one of the jewels that the winery treasures. The Frasqueira category is awarded to vintage wines that have been aged for at least 20 years in the traditional "pipas" or very old French oak barrels, where a very slow and controlled oxidation takes place by the traditional "canteiro" method.
The label pays homage to Manuel Eugénio Fernandes, a winemaker born in 1906 who supplied verdelho grapes to Barbeito from its beginnings and maintained a long-standing friendship with the family.
