Iraun 2023 is one of the standout white wines from Oxer Bastegieta, who has modernized viticulture in Rioja Alavesa while respecting native varieties. "Iraun" means "to endure" in Basque, reflecting the perseverance of the Basque people. This wine is made from a century-old vine in Elvillar, using Viura and other historical varieties like Calagraño and Malvasía Riojana. Fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and is completed in used French oak barrels for 12 months. This process seeks a perfect integration between fruit and mineral texture without the wood being dominant. The wine presents aromas of peach, apple, and lemon, with smoky and chalky notes. On the palate, it is silky and vibrant with acidity that adds depth. Ideal with seafood, fish, rice, and cheese, it has excellent aging potential and will evolve over the years.
