Guelbenzu Lombana 2009 is a premium red wine produced by Bodegas Guelbenzu , a historic estate located in Cascante in the Ribera del Queiles area of Spain. The wine comes from the Lombana vineyard , one of the estate’s most select plots, and represents an elegant, Bordeaux-inspired style.
It is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot , varieties that thrive in the continental climate of the region. The vines are planted on well-drained, poor soils , allowing for concentrated grapes with excellent ageing potential.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. After fermentation, the wine is aged for an extended period in French oak barrels , developing structure, depth and complexity. It is then further refined in bottle before release.
On the nose it shows aromas of ripe black fruits, cassis and plum , along with notes of tobacco, cocoa, spice, leather and subtle balsamic hints. On the palate it is structured, elegant and complex , with refined tannins, balanced acidity and a long finish with integrated oak.
This wine has excellent ageing potential , and the 2009 vintage is already showing developed tertiary notes, making it ideal for pairing with red meats, game, stews and aged cheeses.
