Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Especial 2020 is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero produced by Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio , located between Pesquera de Duero and Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid). The winery was founded by Carlos Falco in 1990 and since its inception has had the technical direction of winemaker Peter Sisseck.
This wine is made mainly with Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) and Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's own vineyards located at an altitude of 730 meters above sea level on limestone and clay soils. The 2020 vintage maintains the characteristic style of the house, where the presence of Cabernet adds structure and complexity to the blend.
After fermentation with long macerations, the wine is aged for approximately 19 months in French oak barrels , some of which are new. It is then refined in the bottle before being released to the market.
The nose presents aromas of ripe black fruit, plum and spicy notes , accompanied by hints of cocoa, tobacco and fine toasted notes from the aging process. The palate is powerful and balanced , with fine tannins, good acidity and a long, elegant finish.
Outstanding scores for the 2020 vintage:
94+ points Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
95 points James Suckling
