La Faraona 2023 is one of the most exclusive and prestigious wines from Spain, produced by Descendientes de J. Palacios in the Bierzo denomination. This wine comes from a tiny plot of just 0.55 hectares, situated on a steep hillside in Corullón, regarded as one of the great vineyards in Europe. The extreme growing conditions, along with fully manual viticulture and low yields, give it a marked mineral quality and elegance. The main variety is Mencía, complemented by small proportions of traditional white varieties that have been carefully planted in the same plot, respecting the historical tradition of the region. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in open tanks, and aging lasts for approximately 20 months in barrels, entirely excluding artificial intervention and seeking the maximum expression of the vineyard. On the nose, it showcases extraordinary complexity, presenting aromas of fresh red fruit, along with floral notes of roses and violets, paired with herbs and spices, all framed by a prominent mineral character. On the palate, it reveals itself as an exceptionally fine and elegant wine, with silky tannins and a great freshness that lingers in a long and delicate finish. This wine is considered a true cult wine, with notable aging potential, and in 2023 it has achieved peak critical scores, reaffirming its status among the great wines of the world.
