The St. Bernardus Witbier was created in the St. Bernardus brewery in cooperation with Pierre Celis, the former brewer of Hoegaarden and responsible for the rise of the white beer (Wit), in the 1950s, who in the 1980s sold his brewery to Interbrew. With this creation he wanted to return to brewing a beer with the character and qualities of his "Hoegaarden" of yesteryear

St. Bernardus Witbier is a purely Belgian style "white" beer
The St. Bernardus Witbier is a purely Belgian-style "white" beer, cloudy due to the use of wheat and the remains of yeast, light and refreshing at first sip, but then opening up with a wider range of aromas and flavours than commercial and industrial wheat beers, making it a great discovery
The use of spices such as coriander and curasao adds freshness and a spicy note. There is no clear reason to add a slice of lemon, although some people do it to complement the flavor of curasao (dried orange peel).
The St. Bernardus Witbier is very refreshing, so it is recommended to drink it fresh, as an aperitif accompanied by seafood such as prawns or lobsters and fresh oysters with lemon!
