Les Forts de Latour 2016 is the second wine of the prestigious Château Latour , one of the great icons of Bordeaux located in the Pauillac appellation in the Médoc. The wine is produced from selected parcels of the estate’s vineyards, including plots from the historic Enclos de Latour as well as other classified vineyards in Pauillac.
Although considered the estate’s second wine, Les Forts de Latour has developed its own identity and is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding second wines in Bordeaux. The label has been used since 1966 , reflecting the château’s ongoing efforts to maintain exceptional quality across its entire production.
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon , the hallmark grape of Pauillac, complemented by Merlot , which adds balance and roundness. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels , a significant proportion of which are new, allowing the wine to develop complexity and structure.
The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest in recent Bordeaux history, known for its balance, concentration and ageing potential. On the nose it reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark fruits , alongside classic Pauillac notes of tobacco, graphite, cedar and spice.
On the palate it is structured, elegant and layered , with fine-grained tannins, deep fruit concentration and vibrant acidity. The finish is long and complex, with mineral and spicy nuances that reflect the distinctive terroir of Latour.
This wine has excellent ageing potential and is generally recommended to drink from around 2026 onwards , pairing beautifully with red meats, game, roast lamb and refined cuisine.
