Albamar PAI Special Edition 2024 is a tribute by winemaker Xurxo Alba to his father. This wine is made from grapes of old vines at the mouth of the Umia River, combining freshness with a marked mineral identity. Perfect for pairing with shellfish and fish.
Albamar PAI Special Edition 2024 is one of Xurxo Alba's most personal wines, created as a tribute to his father, whose Galician term 'pai' reflects affection and dedication. This wine is made from a blend of different parcels near the sea, allowing the assembly of varied profiles and results in an exceptionally complex and complete wine, superior to the basic Albamar.
The vines, approximately 25 years old, are planted in the coastal mouth of the Umia River, where the Atlantic influence and sandy soils contribute unique characteristics, such as freshness, salinity, and a strong mineral identity. The winemaking process is meticulous, integrating various methods: part is made in steel, another in large oak barrels, utilizing both malolactic fermentation and its absence. Aging on lees adds volume and texture to the wine while maintaining the necessary tension and precision.
On the nose, this wine presents a complexity and elegance that seduces, with citrus notes, white fruits like pear and apple, along with tropical hints and floral nuances, all under an anisette and mineral backdrop. On tasting, it reveals a breadth and saline freshness, with good acidity and an enveloping texture that distinguishes it from a young Albariño. Its finish is long and balanced, with a clear Atlantic signature merging freshness and depth. This Albariño is not only more serious and structured than the standard, but it also shows remarkable aging potential, allowing it to maintain its excellence for approximately 3 to 4 years. It is a gastronomic wine, ideal for pairing with shellfish, fish, octopus, rice or the rich Galician cuisine, where its balance between volume and freshness stands out.
