Protos Gran Reserva 2017 is made 100% with very old tempranillo grapes, over 60 years old, ensuring low yield and concentrated grapes perfect for producing long-lived wines like this. The harvest is done manually in 20 kg boxes and the grapes are hand-selected. After maceration with skins, it is fermented for 28 days at 28º C, followed by aging for 24 months in French oak barrels (80%) and American (20%), plus 36 months of resting in the bottle. This meticulous process yields an expressive, powerful, and silky wine.
Founded in 1927, Bodegas Protos is a pioneer in the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, located in Peñafiel, where it has underground galleries ideal for aging. Its commitment to quality is reflected in its demand for a maximum of 5,000 kg of grapes per hectare, within a regulatory framework allowing up to 7,000. Protos Gran Reserva is only produced in excellent vintages, ensuring its unquestionable quality.
