Eguzkilore Hamper
History
A legend from Basque mythology says that Amalur, Mother Earth, gave her children the sun (eguzki) and the moon (ilargia - dead light), so that they could defend themselves from the evil beings that populated the earth.
But in the nights of the night, the sun and the moon (ilargia - dead light) were the only ones that could defend themselves from the evil beings that populated the earth
But on moonless nights these beings would enter their homes and carry off their children. So Amalur gave them Eguzkilore, the flower of the sun, to place at the entrance to their house.
And the evil being had to count the hairs on the leaves of the flower to be able to enter, but there were so many and it took so long that it dawned and he had to leave, the house being protected.
Hundreds of houses in the Basque Country still maintain this millenary tradition.
