Altitude: 1776 m
Variety: Red Bourbon
Process: Washed
Producer: Coop. Nyungwe

The Nyungwe washing station is located in the western province of Rwanda, in the Nyamasheke district. The station is located on the outskirts of the small town of Tyazo. At an altitude of 1,776 meters, the station occupies a tiny area of just 1.1 hectares and was built in 2006. RTC acquired ownership of the station in 2013. The station is managed by Daniel Iryivuze, with 5 full-time employees year-round and around 60 seasonal workers during harvest months. 1039 small-scale farmers contributed coffee to the 2022 production of 186,000 kg of processed cherries. Thanks to RTC's agribusiness training program, to which all farmers belong, the station's production has increased from 140,000 kg annually of processed cherries to almost 200,000 kg annually. All farmers use organic fertilizers and expand their plantations with seedlings distributed by RTC field agents. The rich volcanic soil, sun, and rain make this area highly productive for the cultivation of high-quality coffee. Nestled in the hills surrounding the Nyungwe forest are the farms that supply coffee to Nyungwe. The natural Nyungwe forest ensures regular rainfall throughout the year, and due to its high altitude, the region produces the best cups of coffee in Rwanda.
