The interpretation of a unique vintage and an ancient winemaking technique distinguishes this wine made only in 2014, which stands out for its extraordinary minerality, a touch of salinity, and a high degree of purity. One of those wines that are unique and very special. It lives up to its name, simply being unique and unrepeatable. It was aged in amphorae as the Romans used to do.

More information

Can Bas Domini Vinícola is a historic building, part of the Pere Ventura Group, located in Subirats (Penedés), where authentic estate wine is produced. At Can Bas, they express themselves in a contemporary and honest way from the depths of their essence. They find excellence in the roots of the land, in knowledge, and in experience. At Can Bas, they reveal the most sublime potential preserved in memory to produce authentic terroir wines. Committed to sustainability Technical sheet: Winery: Can Bas (Pere Ventura) D.O. Penedés Vintage: 2018 Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot Alcohol content: 15% vol. Tasting notes: Appearance: Cherry, garnet rim. Nose: Aromatically intense, with notes of candied fruit, liquor-infused fruit, powerful, somewhat evolved. Palate: It is tasty, with sweetness, and a long finish. Service temperature: Serve between 8 and 10 ºC Geology and Soil: Deep sandy-loam, low organic matter content, high water retention capacity, and optimal filtration. Pairing: At Made in Spain Gourmet we recommend pairing it with whatever you like. But it harmonizes well with meat-based stews; duck with orange, mushrooms, stews with truffle. Of course, also with the best 100% Iberian cured meats and pure acorn-fed ham. Not forgetting smoked foods like red tuna mojama from Isla Cristina and aged cheeses. Production: The harvest is done manually. In the winery, the grapes are refrigerated for 24 hours at a controlled temperature of 10 ºC. The final control of the grapes follows, passing through the selection table and destemming. The grapes are left to macerate for two hours before being pressed. After a gentle pressing with low yield, most of the must is transferred to stainless steel tanks and a small amount to French oak barrels (10%) and amphora (5%), where it ferments at a controlled temperature of 15 ºC. This is followed by a six-month aging period. The different musts are blended and bottled. At Can Bas, the wines they produce are honest and genuine. In fact, they are the true witnesses of what has happened in our house over four seasons. At Can Bas, they are not interested in repeating a wine year after year, or intervening to achieve an exact copy. Each bottle that leaves their winery reflects the typicity of the estate as well as the climatic and environmental conditions of the harvest in the Penedés region. At Can Bas, they work every day to obtain wines that, above all, are an expression of the grapes grown in their vineyards and of the spirit infused by the owners. At Can Bas, they believe that viticulture and winemaking are not exact sciences. They are rather a practice sustained by intuition, experience, sacrifice, perseverance, stubbornness, good judgment, and the curiosity that drives innovation. And all of this, driven by the work that the hands of their workers dedicate to both the vineyard and the winery. At Can Bas, they make every effort to adapt the vineyard work schedule to the needs of each plot, each variety, or each particular vine, following a scrupulous code of good practices. And when it comes time to vinify, they are even more meticulous. Therefore, the result is exceptional wines. Can Bas is a place where the vine has been cultivated for over two thousand years; a nucleus inhabited since ancient times; a manor house built on an old farmhouse; an agricultural production unit dedicated uninterruptedly to viticulture. Can Bas is a winery where, today, they only produce wines from the vineyards of their estate. Can Bas is a property, a land, a compendium of history, a nexus of culture, the sum of illusions, efforts, knowledge, experience, and work. It is a reference in the geographical area of Penedès as well as a point of tourist and wine tourism interest. Can Bas is a place and an idea; perhaps also a passion. It is a way of making wine, a landscape, and a people. All this constitutes the Can Bas wine estate. The Brand The name Can Bas, which today designates the brand of their wines and the wine estate, dates back to 1668. In Catalonia, it is a tradition to name country houses - whether large or small - with the owner's name preceded by the word Can, which means "house of." Therefore, the demonym Can Bas means house of Mr. Bas. Although the estate and agricultural operation already existed in the Middle Ages, the name that has persisted to this day originated in the late 17th century. In memory of that moment, the CAN BAS logo adopts a Roman family
