We tell you a little bit about the history of this Winery:
Bodegas Lustau was founded in 1896 by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo. It was a modest beginning: Don José, a judicial secretary, cultivated the vines on his estate Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. In the vineyard house, he aged the wines which he later sold to the large exporting wineries. He was a stockholder. Lustau's philosophy has remained the same since its origin in 1896: the pursuit of the highest quality to offer the market the widest and most select range of Jerez wines. In recent years, Lustau has been awarded and recognized with numerous awards, including the "Best Spanish Winery" in 2011 awarded in London by the International Wine & Spirit Competition, as well as the Most Awarded Spanish Winery of 2012 and seventh worldwide, and the award for Best Oenologist of Generous Wines in the World received for five consecutive years by their oenologist Manuel Lozano at the International Wine Challenge in London.
VINEYARD
Our vineyards receive around 3,000 hours of sun per year, accompanied by relatively high rainfall, with an average of around 600 liters annually.
The landscape of the area is mainly made up of hills of very white limestone soil, called "albariza". Its richness is due to the fact that this area was under the sea thousands of years ago. To a lesser extent, there are areas of clays and sands in areas near the coast.
Lustau has two vineyards in the Jerez region:
-Viña Montegilillo. With albariza soils, very suitable for the cultivation of Palomino grapes. From it, we obtain musts for the production of manzanillas, finos, amontillados, and olorosos.
-Viña Las Cruces. Near the coast. In its sandy soils, we cultivate Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez grapes, destined for the production of sweet wines.
WINERY
Cathedral-style cellars, with high ceilings and immaculate albero floors that maintain stable temperature and humidity to favor the special microclimate that Jerez wines need.
Lustau is the only winery that produces wines in the three cities of the Jerez region: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
In Jerez de la Frontera is the main headquarters. The Los Arcos winery complex, built in the 19th century, houses inside it six aging cellars dating from different periods.
THE OENOLOGIST: Manuel Lozano
Lustau wines spend a minimum of three years aging, and sometimes exceed thirty years. Therefore, the work in the winery is more important than in other wine regions.
Manuel Lozano has received for the fifth consecutive year the award for Best Oenologist of Generous Wines in the World by the International Wine Challenge. A success that had never before occurred in the history of the London competition.
STOCKHOLDERS
Stockholders are professionals or entrepreneurs who, out of love for the wine culture, produce them using traditional methods in their small, mostly family-owned wineries.
Traditionally, these wines were sold to large companies, which mixed them with their own soleras.
Until a few years ago, consumers did not have access to these exceptional sherries, so at Lustau we decided to study how to value them and make both the wine and its original stockholder recognized. Our oenologist, Manuel Lozano, is responsible for selecting the most exceptional ones, and at Lustau we bottle them as they are extracted from their original soleras.
They are presented in 50-centiliter format, and on each label of the Stockholder range we mention the producer, the style of wine, the city where it was
