There are three basic varieties of oranges: the sweet orange, the best known and the one we usually buy in the markets; the bitter orange, used mainly for making bitter orange marmalade; and the sanguine or sanguinelli, with a red-orange color that is popular for juicing.
Blood orange has red stripes on the skin, and the juice is often a dark reddish color
The optimal season for consuming blood oranges is from late December to May, i.e. winter and spring are the best seasons for buying and consuming red oranges

Best época: The orange season is from January to May. This is when you can get oranges in Spain at a very reasonable price. There is a difference between juice oranges (cheaper in season, rich in juice) and table oranges (larger and more beautiful)
Conservation: Fresh oranges can last more than three weeks in the refrigerator, although if they are stored at room temperature you can get more juice out of them
