Helps to reduce the feeling of tired legs.
Horse chestnut is a tree of the sapindaceae family. It gets its name from its Middle Eastern and Indian origins. The active part of the tree is the seeds, which are very rich in triterpene saponosides, the most common being aescin (a mixture of 30 saponins derived from aglycones). In addition, other active substances such as anthocyanidins and flavonoids can be found.
Traditionally, horse chestnut has been used as an anti-inflammatory and venotonic (decreasing the permeability of blood vessels and capillaries). This prevents fluid retention and promotes proper circulation, mainly in the lower limbs, in cases of varicosis and chronic venous insufficiency (swelling, tingling, heaviness, night cramps). Its action lies in its ability to reduce the destruction of proteoglycans (structural substances in the walls of blood vessels) and improve the entry of calcium. It also has preventive and therapeutic action in cases of haemorrhoids.
