The coquina (Donax trunculus) is an acephalous bivalve mollusk of the family Donacidae. They are small mollusks, 2-4 cm on average, 2 and 5 cm the largest. The shell is oval and cuneiform, fine and soft to the touch and the color varies from yellowish white to purple. It is also called truncated coquina to differentiate it from other Donax species such as the xarleta coquina (Donax vittatus)
