Dandelion is a perennial plant with golden yellow hermaphrodite flowers that make it easily identifiable and widespread on almost every continent. It is considered a weed. Its root contains abundant potassium salts (5%) and inulin (2%, which is concentrated up to 40% in autumn). It also contains sesquiterpene lactones, triterpene alcohols, phytosterols and mucilages (1%). Its leaves contain sesquiterpene lactones, triterpenes, phytosterols, flavonoids and abundant potassium salts (up to 5%).

Traditionally, dandelion has been used as a diuretic, choleretic and cholagogue. It is depurative and a mild laxative. The anti-diabetic properties of dandelion, attributed to chicoric acid, taraxasterol, chlorogenic acid and sesquiterpene lactones, have been studied with promising results.

MAIN INDICATIONS

• Hepatobiliary dyskinesia (stimulation of hepatic and biliary functions), dyspepsia, loss of appetite.
• Diuretic and adjuvant in mild urinary disorders.
• Mild digestive disorders, such as fullness, flatulence and slow digestion, as well as temporary loss of appetite.
