Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados is a single-varietal red wine made from Mencía, produced by the prestigious Galician winery Ponte da Boga in the Ribeira Sacra D.O., a region known for its uniqueness and scenic beauty.
The history of Ponte da Boga dates back to 1898, and since then they have cultivated vineyards in Terras Caldelas with a focus on heroic viticulture, taking advantage of the steep slopes in the area. Today, the winery is part of Corporación Hijos de Rivera, a company with a strong commitment to quality and tradition.
Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados comes from small plots located on the steep slopes of the Bibei and Sil rivers. These plots, occupied by old vines planted in slate and schist soils, produce very low yields but of exceptional quality due to the unique climatic conditions of the region. The harvest is done manually at the optimal ripening time to ensure the maximum quality of the grape.
Once harvested, the grapes are destemmed and pressed before undergoing alcoholic fermentation for 10 days, followed by maceration with gentle pump-overs. Subsequently, the wine continues its malolactic fermentation process and is aged in second and third-use French oak barrels in the winery for 10 months.
Ponte da Boga Bancales Olvidados is a true reflection of Mencía in its purest form, capturing the essence of the region and its unique conditions. Its fruity character and balance make it a perfect accompaniment to a variety of dishes, from rice and white meats to soft cheeses and red meats.
