The adjective "Taggiasche" refers to a well-known locality on the west coast of Liguria - Taggia - the first place where this famous quality of olives arrived, brought by monks from the island-monastery of Lerino, in front of Cannes. The cultivation of these olives then spread all over that area which is now in the province of Imperia, on the side known as the "ponente" of the Mediterranean region.
