Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao is a red wine made with the native Merenzao variety in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra by Ponte de Boga.
Located in the town of Castro Caldelas in Ourense, Ponte da Boga is a century-old winery that is situated in a stunning landscape of terraced slopes, which can only be accessed through heroic viticulture. Since 2005, the winery has been part of Corporación Hijos de Rivera and has begun a period of commercial expansion with a significant collection of wines that reflect the deep-rooted character of Ribeira Sacra.
Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao comes from plots with old vineyards planted in schist and slate soils, cultivated using the traditional trellis and stake method to limit yields. Due to the terrain conditions, heroic viticulture is practiced, without the use of machinery and all work is done manually with harnesses. The harvest is carried out in boxes of 18 kg.
The ripe grapes of Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao are destemmed and pressed upon arrival at the winery. Subsequently, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks for 10 days with gentle pumpovers and an 8-day maceration. Finally, malolactic fermentation and aging take place in second and third use French oak barrels for 10 months.
As a result of the delicate and whimsical native Merenzao variety, Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao is a Limited Edition red wine with all the originality that characterizes the Ribeira Sacra.
Pairing: Legumes, soft cheeses, red meats, rice dishes, and game.
