'
Mezcal Don Mateo Cupeatra, is an artisanal mezcal from Michoacán with tradition since 1840, currently being the 6th generation of master Mezcaleros. In Mezcal Don Mateo they work with Agave species endemic to Michoacan that give unique and unmatched characteristics to the mezcal.
Don Mateo Cupreata is made from semi-wild Cupreata cactus by master mezcalero Emilio Vieyra. The Michoacan terror is characterized by rivers. A volcanic belt throughout Mexico with many active, dormant and extinct volvanes; it varies from coniferous forests to tropical forests. Vieyra Vinata is cut into a hillside on the rugged Morelia Plateau in the Balsas River region, surrounded by temperate evergreen forests. The high altitude climate is characterized by sandy soils and moderate rainfall. Soft forest floors with minerals, foam and red sand. These are all the effects of Don Mateo Cepraata. Agave used in this blend begins their lives in the Vieyra Agave nursery. Once they reach a healthy size, they are replanted on slopes around the withering and allowed to grow undisturbed until they reach maturity. Once ripe, Agave Cupreata is roasted in a pan, mellowed with natural yeast in oak barrels and then double distilled in a Philippine pot still.
They took the name Don Mateo mezcal after Mateo Rangel, one of the three great-grandfathers of the Vieyra family who already made mezcal. Don Mateo Rangel was a tenacious man who fought in social causes and thus lost his life but he is remembered with the brand MEZCAL DON MATEO.
