Pineapple core and pineapple concentrate are rich in a digestive enzyme called bromelain. Bromelain is an excellent digestive, highly beneficial in cases of difficult digestion, and at the same time it has anorexigenic properties, i.e. it reduces appetite. Fructooligosaccharides, as insoluble fibers, provide a feeling of satiety; this, together with the anorexigenic action of pineapple, prevents overeating, or eating between meals. This reduces gas production and acidity, and controls weight. Fructooligosaccharides also accelerate the passage of food through the digestive system, thus avoiding constipation and the consequent intestinal discomfort and putrefaction of feces. A third action of this fiber is the protection of the intestinal flora, since these necessary microorganisms feed on the compounds released by the fiber during digestion. Finally, anise essence contains anethole and estragole, choline and acids. Anise oil is a diuretic, stomachic, expectorant, spasmolytic and carminative; anethole stimulates all the glands, which makes it a first class galactogen.
