Ramos Pinto LBV Unfiltered is a fortified Port wine made from Touriga Nacional, tinta roriz and tinta barroca by Casa Ramos Pinto in Porto, Portugal.
When a port wine is labelled Late Bottled Vintage ( LBV ), it means that it is a fortified wine made from only the vintage indicated on the bottle and that it has aged for 4 to 6 years in oak barrels before bottling.
Ramos Pinto Late Bottled Vintage comes from a single vintage and, unlike its sibling, Vintage, which spends 2 years in cask, it is aged for four years which makes it smoother, as well as more elaborate and easier to drink.
Ramos Pinto Late Bottled Vintage is still made using the old lagares, a kind of stone bucket where the harvested grapes are placed for the traditional treading, which releases the must in a more efficient and smoother way.
Almost opaque in colour, it is an intense red, with deep and dense reflections.
Its nose is both powerful and rich, full of fruit, on which a bouquet of ripe fruit and plum, with a hint of delicious chocolate, along with hints of pepper and some other botanical suggestions.
It is very elegant on the palate, with good volume, round tannins and the obvious ripeness to the fruit is accompanied by a light touch of aniseed and a delicious finish.
