from Delicat Gourmet

Temporarily out of stock

Bright crimson red in colour with Shiraz fruit dominating on the nose with aromas of pepper and spice, dark plum and ripe red fruits. Cedary oak combines with notes of smoked meat and hints of liquorice. The palate is dense and rich with juicy red fruits. Flavors of mocha coffee running through the mid-palate add lusciousness and the wine finishes with finely textured tannins. The wine shows a perfect balance of cedar wood and ripe fruit flavors.

Company information:

The key to Penfolds' success has been a lineage of visionary winemakers. There have been only four chief winemakers at the helm of Penfolds: Max Schubert, Don Ditter, John Duval and Peter Gago, each a custodian of a rich winemaking tradition that dates back more than 170 years. The current Penfolds winemaking team has been with each other for over 100 years as Penfolds winemakers. They constantly refine and improve their work, while respecting the winemaking techniques of their predecessors.

Penfolds Rawson Retreat wines feature classic single varietals and varietal blends in an approachable, fresh-tasting style. Drawing on the extensive resources of Penfolds vineyards, the wines offer a premium quality and value guarantee, presenting the drinker with an affordable taste of everyday Australian wine at its finest. Launched in 1995, Rawson's Retreat is the introductory level to Penfolds wines. The name Rawson's Retreat is an informal reference to the stone cottage built in 1845 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold on the famous Magill Vineyard in Adelaide, where, with his wife Mary and daughter Georgina, he had settled the previous year and would soon establish Penfolds. Winery, which he still operates today
