It is grown in hot or tropical climates. Its season is summer and there are different species, cylindrical or round, and of different size and color, but basically they are divided into two types:
- Diploid or seeded: elongated shape and striped.
- Triploid or seedless: light green with dark green stripes.
It has a high content of water and fiber and contains no calories or carbohydrates, so it is recommended in slimming diets. In addition, it is rich in vitamins A and C, minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and sodium, folic acid, beta-carotene and antioxidants.
