Interview with Quesos de la Huz: tradition and excellence in La Mancha

Behind a great cheese lies much more than just milk and tradition. First of all, there are generations of hard work, a constant commitment to quality, and a daily dedication to the product. Today, here at mentta, we’re featuring “Quesos de la Huz,” which is, in fact, one of our premier Manchego cheese shops.

A family-owned business with deep roots

The history of De La Huz Quesos begins long before the cheese shop was founded. Miguel’s parents founded a food distribution company in the 1970s. So, a few years later, in 1988, they decided to take it a step further and create their own cheese shop with the goal of supplying their business with products they made themselves.

Over time, this project grew and evolved. In 2001 and 2004, the second generation of the family joined the company, driving its expansion in both the domestic and international markets. Finally, in 2013, the company adopted the name De La Huz Grimaldos Industrias Lácteas, reflecting the evolution of a business that has never lost its family-run character.

A Day in the Life of a Cheese Factory

For Miguel, each day begins long before he arrives at the factory. “We wake up thinking about milk, sheep, and cheese,” he explains. Once there, the day begins in the production workshop, where he and the master cheesemaker review the week’s production plan and oversee every step of the manufacturing process.

After that, he checks orders, coordinates daily operations, and stays in touch with customers and distributors. Moreover, as sales director, Miguel devotes much of his time to strengthening business relationships. In addition, he prepares the company’s presence at national and international trade shows, where they showcase their cheeses to new markets and industry professionals.

Quality as a Philosophy
