Afuega’l Pitu Trapu Blanco is a cheese that is easy to recognize due to its pumpkin shape. Its name and characteristic shape come from the fact that during the draining process, the curd is placed in cloths (rags) that are tied at the top, creating those distinctive folds. It also stands out for its irregular cut, a result of being self-pressed by gravity.
It has won the bronze medal at the World Cheese Awards 24 held in Portugal, adding to the gold medal won at the same competition in 2021.
Afuega’l Pitu Trapu Blanco cheese has a very pleasant flavor with predominant dairy and slightly acidic notes.
It comes from the Temia Cheese Factory founded in the small village that gives it its name. It is a family business that participates in fairs and competitions, allowing this cheese to find its place on the shelves of large supermarkets and renowned restaurants, crossing borders and even being available for purchase on Fifth Avenue in NY.
