The eggplant is a vegetable that belongs to the same family as the tomato, pepper, or potato. It usually has an elongated body, but there are also very thin eggplants. The most commercialized ones are the purple or striped ones. Its flesh is white or with a cream tone and with seeds inside. They should never be eaten raw due to a substance it contains, called solanine. This substance disappears when cooked.
