The pepper belongs to the same family as the tomato and the eggplant, there are various species of peppers, basically classified into green, yellow, and red, in addition to the following distinctions:
- Red pepper
- Pepper piquillo, Padrón, guindillas, and Gernika: spicy.
- Choricero pepper
- Ñoras
- Italian sweet pepper
- From the dried red peppers, cayenne pepper is obtained.
It stands out for its high caloric content and because it contains a lot of water, fiber, and few fats. In addition, it is rich in vitamin C, contains vitamins E, A, B1, B2, B3, and B6; minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, and calcium; folic acid, carotenes, capsanthin that provides antioxidant properties, and beta-carotene. Peppers are beneficial for health because they strengthen the immune system, the nervous and muscular systems, help combat arthritis and rheumatism, and eliminate fats.
They are a very popular food in our cuisine, the most consumed are the elongated or square red and green ones.
