Kumeu River Hunting Hill Pinot Noir is a red wine made from Pinot Noir in Kumeu, Auckland, New Zealand, by Kumeu River Winery.
In 1994 we established new plantings of Pinot Noir on the Kumeu Estate with the aim of producing red wine to rival the quality of their Kumeu River Chardonnay. To this end, only the best new planting material available in Burgundy was chosen, yields were limited and the flavour of this wonderfully aristocratic grape variety was intensified.
A restrained, mineral and complex bouquet in the old world style, with lovely floral notes and earthy, sandalwood aromas. Beautiful purity of ripe cherry on the nose with a touch of game.
On the palate, it's really lush, tight, fresh and savoury, with a chalky, enlivening texture, crisp acidity and a nice long mineral finish. The palate is smooth in texture but with enough tannin to allow this wine to age nicely in bottle.
This wine will surprise many who have not tasted it before and a step up from previous editions of Hunting Hill Pinot Noir.
