The Estrada Alta is a small vineyard of only 0.64 hectares at an altitude of 610 meters. It is located in the highest and westernmost part of the village of Lanciego, on very poor soil. It is a vineyard from the 1940s, worked in goblet, traditionally grafted in the vineyard itself, mainly using Tempranillo and some Graciano. Facing northeast, it is located on the top of a hillside of pure calcareous clay. We have always been fascinated by this small vineyard for the purity, depth, and balance of its wine. The 2017 vintage will be remembered as the one with the great frost on April 27th and 28th (down to -5ºC). Most of the plots in the high areas of Lanciego were largely spared from this frost, as was the case with La Estrada. Otherwise, it was a fairly warm and dry year, especially after the frost but also in the month of March. The final rains and an early and healthy harvest have resulted in expressive and intense wines, yet full of balance. Bottles produced: 1,932.
