Lalomba Finca Ladero Tinto is an interesting combination, from Monte Yerga in La Rioja Oriental, of concentrated black fruit and the evocative herbal notes of the Garnacha: thyme and scrubland. Lush, powerful wine with fantastic citric acidity to sustain the whole.
Finca Ladero The combination of the tempranillo (80%) and garnacha (20%) varieties reflects the most defined identity of the Sierra de Yerga. It is the harmony between the deep character and authenticity that proximity to a wild plant world brings; between a stimulating acidity and a vibrant juiciness. A luminous wine, of tangible complexity, brimming with energy and strength.
Elaboration We harvest the grapes in 12 kg boxes and keep them in a cold room for 12 hours. We optically select them, grain by grain. They macerate for five days in concrete tanks exclusively designed for Lalomba. During this time, a slow fermentation begins with yeast from the vineyard. On the fifth day, we inoculate selected native yeasts. The fermentation temperature is 24 ºC. By combining delestages and pump-overs at certain times, we promote the extraction and maceration process. Once the fermentation is complete, we macerate the wine for another 14 days, followed by a gentle pressing. We then transfer the wine to 225-liter barrels of new French oak and Hungarian oak, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine matures in the same barrels for 16 months, without racking. It is then returned to the concrete tanks for 22 months. Bottled in January 2020.
Vintage 2016 A vintage marked by pronounced aridity, with only 280 mm of precipitation recorded. It was also a fairly cool cycle. The maximum temperature was 31.8 ºC on July 18 and the minimum was -3.8 ºC on February 17.
ABOUT LALOMBA Lalomba expresses the authenticity of the vineyard with a collection of three wines from three estates that Ramón Bilbao, Lalomba's parent winery, has been studying and carefully cultivating in different locations in Rioja for years: Finca Valhonta in the terraces of Villalba de Rioja (Rioja Alta); Finca Ladero and Finca Lalinde in the austere slopes of the Sierra de Yerga (Rioja Oriental).
There are vineyards whose fruit deserves to be bottled separately. Places where the wine transparently reflects the specific virtues of that location. Vineyards whose exclusive elements demand to be valued: the combination of soil and microclimate, the persistence of traditional viticulture, the altitude and environment, the sustained quality over time. In summary, the unique combination of history, nature, and landscape.
