These are fabulous goblet-trained vineyards growing on pebble soils, vestiges left by the passage of the Duero River in its day. An area with a long winemaking tradition in which Vega Sicilia bet on and which has become today a leading region on the world scene.
The climate is a very special one
The continental climate, with a tenuous oceanic influence and large temperature fluctuations with hot and very dry summers, together with rainfall between 350 and 400 mm/year and average annual temperatures of 12.5 ºC, favours good conditions of plant health and ensures adequate saccharic and polyphenolic ripening of the grapes.
The soils of the Vega Sicilia vineyards have been used to produce Vega Sicilia for the vineyards
The soils of the Pintia plots were formed on alluvial deposits in the Quaternary, forming a large part of high terraces of the Duero River with sandy accumulations on the surface that facilitate the precollection of water and clays with quartzite pebbles at depth. These act as a water reserve to ensure good nutrition and plant physiology throughout the vegetative cycle, and in some plots, the stoniness based on large quartzite pebbles is also superficial, which helps to regulate temperatures and favours the polyphenolic ripening of the grapes. The soil management of each of the plots is carried out taking into account the textural and structural differences of the soil, which helps to achieve a complete and balanced ripening of the grapes with the personality of each terroir.
In the years 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000, Vega Sicilia began to buy old vineyards to complete the 106 hectares of vineyardsthat are currently in operation
During those 4 years they made winemaking experiments to try to see what was the potential of Toro wines, and they saw that it was a style of wine where the most important thing was to preserve the fruit of the grapes
With that idea was born the first vintage, 2001, to be marketed in 2004. Production began with 40,000 bottles in the 2001 vintage. Ten years later, production has multiplied to 300,000 bottles
With the completion of the works in Bodegas Pintia, is the fourth masterpiece carried out by the Alvarez family. Leading wineries in its sector, designed to make the best possible wine, designed with functionality and where cleanliness is the first maxim to respect
The most modern facilities, the best materials with a high rotation of the same, a very careful vineyard, good professionals and an effective policy are other keys to the triumph of Pintia
Elegance and power concur in Pintia, the Toro wine from the Alvarez family, owner of Vega Sicilia. This isone of the most affordable wines from this prestigious winemaking group and shows in the 2015 vintage a very interesting aroma of fruit and spices, a lot of concentration and, at the same time, tension and persistence in the mouth. In short, agreat, precise and long wine
