Aged at least 12 years, El Dorado is a blend of rums produced in metal and also wooden stills. Additionally, this rum is created on the shores of Demerara, making it a traditionally Caribbean rum.
The label refers to the youngest rum used in the blend of this rum, making it an attractive and exquisite rum. Therefore, it is considered one of the noblest rums in the world and has a unique flavor for the enjoyment of people who appreciate fine drinking.
The unique climate of Demerara creates a perfect environment for rum aging. Additionally, the use of oak barrels, where the rum is stored for decades, provides a deep and rich flavor; a taste unlike anything else.
The history of rum in Demerara, Guyana, began with the Dutch around 1600 when they found a land rich in minerals and a climate that provided the perfect environment for sugar cane production. With so much sugar in the area, rum production was inevitable. By around 1780, there were over 300 distilleries in the region, including El Dorado.
By around 1942, only 9 of all the original Demerara distilleries remained, and today only a few remain, making El Dorado one of the most traditional distilleries of all.
